Psychotherapy;
the use of psychological methods, particularly when based on regular personal interaction, to help a person change behavior, increase happiness, and overcome problems.
Individual therapy is time set aside for you. It’s a private, one-on-one space where you can talk openly with a mental health clinician about what’s happening in your life, better understand yourself, learn helpful ways to cope, and work toward the changes that matter to you.
People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons. You may be dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, burnout, relationship concerns, or a major life change. You may also want to understand yourself better, build confidence, change an ongoing pattern, or simply have a place to talk things through.
There isn’t one right way to do therapy. Some approaches are structured and focused on learning practical skills, while others allow more space to explore your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and experiences. Your sessions may include identifying patterns, processing difficult experiences, practicing new responses, or checking in on how things are changing over time.
Our clinicians may use approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and other evidence-informed or person-centered practices. Every therapist brings different strengths, experiences, interests, and specialized training to their work.
We encourage you to visit Our Therapists to learn more about each clinician, the people they work with, the concerns they commonly address, and the approaches they use.
Individual therapy is available in person at our Salem, Massachusetts, office and through telehealth when appropriate. Sessions are often scheduled weekly or every other week, depending on your needs, your clinician’s recommendations, and availability.
